As the country emerges from the Covid 19 restrictions we look forward to a new normal at Level 1, but with a degree of uncertainty of what the near future holds for our businesses, and our community. It has been heartening that our community has really responded to the message about buying local. We have the opportunity to show that keeping it local is good for business, good for employment, and good for the environment

Martin Pinkham - KPA Chairperson

In our district we are fortunate to have access to a wide range of business support services through Enterprise North Canterbury(ENC). Their team are here to help and we recommend that you have a look at the range of services that they can offer your business on their Covid-19 support page https://www.northcanterbury.co.nz/covid-19/. We will continue to distribute all the relevant information coming from the Enterprise North Canterbury on our Facebook page.

Our Facebook page is also regularly updated to provide you with links to the other agencies that can help you and provide advice.

The KPA also wishes to commend the North Canterbury News for its excellent coverage of events and activities in the North Canterbury area. The hard working editorial team are making considerable effort to connect to the local community and provide a wonderful snapshot of what is happening in our community. The newspaper has a very good digital edition of its publications at http://www.ncnews.co.nz/digital-edition/#.

Included in this newsletter is an invitation to subscribe to the Waimak App with a KPA members discount. An independent company, the Waimak App is a recently launched, "Locally owned and Focused", mobile app that is part of a network of apps covering a large part of the country. The App provides your business with a presence in the rapidly growing mobile market. The KPA believes that the Waimak App will be an important tool to engage with visitors to our district, as it provides them with instant access to information about what is happening in the district, what facilities are available, and what businesses are ready to serve them.

The KPA’s year commences in April each year, but due to the Covid-19 situation the Committee held off issuing invoices for the annual subscription. Now that there is more certainty existing members of the KPA will receive an invoice for the 2020/21 year in the next few weeks. For those of you that are not currently members we would really like to see you back. You can re-join by completing the simple form on the KPA About Us page on our website, at https://www.kaiapoi.org.nz/About-Us/Join-Us

The delay in moving to Level 1 Covid-19 response resulted in us having to delay the AGM and networking event, which will now be held at 5.30pm Wednesday 1 July 2020 at the Kaiapoi Coastguard Rooms in Charles Street Kaiapoi.  This will be a great opportunity to catch up with fellow members. You will receive a separate email message with details of the AGM. Your Executive Committee would welcome you to join the Committee and assist in formulating the direction of the KPA.

Waimakariri: Better than Before

COVID-19 has affected everyone in one way, shape or form. To best reflect the aspirations of our community we want to hear from as wide a range of Waimakaririans as possible.

How you can help is by sharing this email and link above with your colleagues, friends and networks as well as taking part in the process yourself.

Unite for the Recovery

A draft plan, called ‘Waimakariri: Better than Before’, is in development and currently has six programmes of focus including:

  • Playing a role in leadership, advocacy and providing support for businesses who are facing a downturn
  • Preparing strategies to further improve our town centres and business areas while accelerating the ‘green economy'
  • Supporting investment from the development and building sector
  • Bringing forward planned capital projects that could stimulate the economy and provide jobs
  • Ensure the well-being of all residents through additional community development and support
  • Maximise business survival and enable new business development
Registering to take part is quick and easy (click the button below) and you will stay informed on what stage of the process we are at throughout.

Business Managers Update.
There has been a great deal of activity in the background over the last month as we work towards announcing the next step in our Kaiapoi Brand project. I encourage as many people as possible to attend the upcoming AGM to hear our plans, and provide feedback as we shift gears towards promoting Kaiapoi as a day trip destination to our neighbours south of the Waimakariri.

It is also very pleasing to be able to confirm that the Christmas Carnival and Santa Parade will go ahead on Saturday December 5th. The on-going COVID-19 situation and resulting economic outlook requires us to be flexible but we remain focused on delivering another successful event.

Regards

Martyn Cook
